We already discussed celebration of Heath's birthday in Louisiana earlier, but we also had a special Walk Around the Sun celebration at school as described previously for Alder. This was Heath's first time doing this and he so proudly and calmly did everything he was supposed to do. He even made a request that we hum the song each time he circumnavigated the sun rather than sing (apparently another child made this request earlier and he liked it).
Then came Dad's celebration at home. I picked the boys up early and we went to the cupcake shop to get some treats. I know Jason would not want a huge cake and the boys do not like chocolate (Jason's favorite), so I decided to solve the dilema (necessary cake on birthday without unity on favorite flavors) by getting cupcakes! The boys are visibly excited to sink their teeth in the sugary goodness while singing and wishing their dad well.....
Fast forward 15 minutes and Heath has eaten only two bites and Alder has eaten all of his (after warnings to save half) and can be found writhing on the floor complaining of a terrible stomach ache. We took this as an opportunity to teach a lesson about too much sugar. Not sure if it sunk in....
We feel fortunate to have another year passed together healthy and happy. Despite a scary sickenss Jason had recently that has thankfully passed (turned out to be West Nile Virus!!), we have and hopefully will continue to be very healthy. Lots of exciting travel coming up in future weeks and still have not posted about our new front yard swing.....maybe in the next few days.
