as in... we forgot. We forgot to give thanks for our tree this year. It was, after all, the tree to celebrate a very special year for us.
On an early December trip to eastern North Carolina, we took the opportunity to scoop up a tree and an experience that the boys might hopefully remember. Along a field edge that Jason grew up knowing very well, we spotted a little red cedar that we thought would survive our taking the top. So we did.
And we strapped it on the car with bungies, crossed our fingers and then made it back to Richmond, with the tree.
It looked different inside. BIgger than we thought, reaching the ceiling once in the stand, but quite a bit more gappy than it appearred on that forest edge. But... considering our beginner's collection of ornaments, it was only right to have a crooked, see-thru tree. The boys loved it and were very sad to see it come down. Alder still asks why we cant put it back up, about once a week.
