General update

This was Alder's second week at daycare. He goes on Tuesday and Thursdays, but I really do not drop him off until 11 or so because I like our morning routine so much and I like to feed him twice before he goes. We get out of bed around 7am (after lying in bed and letting Alder eat his breakfast - he wakes up or we wake him at 6:30). Then we 'play' until 8:30 or so and he goes down for a nap. Playing consists of talking to him while I drink my coffee and eat my cereal, then we go outside and hang up diapers or clothes on the line. He rarely fusses anymore when I put him down for a nap and when he does it is only for a minute and not very convincing (see previous blog post for details...;).

Jason really likes picking up Alder from day care. He says that Alder is happy to see him and does this gurgly coo thing he has been doing lately. It's like he is trying to talk, but he has too much saliva pooled in his throat...

We are dog sitting for some friends and Alder has been enjoying watching Tsuga and Elvis play when I am hanging up the laundry. The weather is getting cooler too so it is not so bad outside - yeah!!

They already have a nickname for him at daycare - "chicken head" - and I think you can see why from this picture... his hair is falling out a lot in the back, but he has retained a good bit on top and it sometimes looks red!

In general he is crying a lot less and smiling a little bit more. He is still pretty serious. The pediatrician said that he likes serious babies b/c they smile appropriately, not just all the time. Well, that is very nice, but I am sure he tells people that he likes their very smiley babies too. Also at the pediatrician we learned that Alder now weighs 15 lbs, 9.5 oz and is 25.25 in long (both in the 90th percentile!).

He is also able to entertain himself well lying under toys and kicking his legs around. He sometimes swats at the toys, but is certainly not reaching for them yet. Hopefully he will start this soon...although I am thinking I will not think it is so cute when he is reaching for everything.

All is going well with my teaching. I was pretty nervous and felt not-so-good about the first two lectures, but the third one was much better. For freshman college students, they are pretty attentive and willing to speak up/ask questions, which is awesome. I feel lucky to have a smallish class of 50 students and hope we can be fairly interactive. I taught them about the structure of DNA yesterday.

Oh yeah and we went for a walk last night and he fell asleep in the Baby Bjorn using my hand as a headrest!

AGH...I brought the last two pics to work on the thumbdrive to post something with them. You beat me to it. I shall make up for it. Looks like I will just come home a little earlier. Nice post sweetness.

Lesley,
Is 50 students in one class small? Wow. I can only second your reflections on teaching. But, remember you are undoubtedly your own toughest critic. Good luck with the rest of the semester.

Awwwwwww- gosh I love the pictures. Lots of babies have the "chicken hair" but because his is so dark it just shows up more. He is beautiful!!!!
